Thinking About A Tampa Bay Rescue Or Shelter Dog?

Many dogs in rescue have no major behavioral problems and can be found new homes quickly: pretty, cute and friendly ones have the easiest time of it. Then there are the scared, shy and fearful ones, they may be have been born with that type of personality, or their fears may have been created or exacerbated by the treatment they received at the hands of previous dog owners. Sometimes their treatment has been brutal and at other times, the owners just did not understand their canine companion and its needs. These dogs often show anxiety which makes placing them in forever homes difficult. These dogs might sit at the back or their kennel, or they might bark and growl at visitors. For many dogs the noisy, busy kennel situation adds to their stress and they cannot “show” themselves off to prospective owners. The longer they are in kennels, the more difficult it becomes to find forever homes for them.

Many Tampa Bay dogs are given up for re-homing for many reasons; often there are behavioral issues ranging from toileting issues to anxieties to aggression. Lately the economy has also been a factor as well. Many dogs, that were brought home as puppies were never given the education needed to help them become good family members and when their puppy cuteness wears off, and they lack manners, they are removed from their homes.

We have seen many Tampa Bay dogs who have been treated badly, and their trauma so deep set, that it can take many months of patient rehabilitation in a rescue centre or more likely by the magnificent numbers of volunteer foster caregivers, to help that dog overcome his fear of humans and learn to trust once more.

Bark Busters Tampa will never give up on a dog if the owner is willing to work with us to rehabilitate him. As Tampa Bay dog trainers who work with many adopted dogs, we will provide assessments, support, advice and tailored training programs to the wonderful owners who have taken on a rescue dog. We often work with Tampa rescue centers and with foster homes, to help the staff and volunteers to train the dogs so that they become well behaved for prospective owners. Some of us even foster dogs or volunteer with rescue groups ourselves to rehabilitate the more difficult dogs, making finding them a home much easier.
